I am the designated bug killer

It’s not like I want to be. Well, most of the time. There is some satisfaction to be found in finally smashing the fly that’s been bothering you for the past 10 minutes.

But my brother has always been terrified of them, and I guess I was more apt than my parents at efficient disposal, so here I am. Bug Killer.

Our home is old and not especially air tight, so I’ve killed a lot of different types of bugs over the years, some more sadly than others. The typical ants: I’ve grown to hate the smell they leave on your fingers after you crush them; an assortment of spiders: these I’m always sad about killing because I’m sure they’re helping me deal with the bug problem too, but they are what my brother fears the most; house centipedes: these deeply unsettle me, they move so fast and can get so large, but again are definitely helping me deal with the bug problem; silverfish: god I hate these since they eat books, I get the most satisfaction in smashing them; the odd earwig: honestly the one bug I hesitate to kill because they gross me out too much; moths: nothing special, easy to kill; that one cricket, god it was so loud; wasps: yeah, got to kill them; ladybugs: unfortunately, you too; bumblebees: this MADE ME SO SAD, but they kept getting in somewhere, we saved most of them, but a few had to go; all the random flies that get in.

The ants always appear in the basement during springtime so I’m dealing with them now. There aren’t too many, probably because I’m being proactive but I’ve had three climb up my legs already and that’s more than enough. I also killed a rather large spider, there’s always one, and they always just appear out of nowhere, but again I have to get it, especially since it was right below the place I usually sit.

The only bugs aside from silverfish and earwigs that I have a serious issue with are mosquitoes because I am very allergic to them and they are simply the bane of my existence during the summer. Very thankful for Benadryl anti itch gel and the hack of putting a very hot rag or an ice cube on a fresh bite.
